Meet the Staff - Luke Zabel

Luke Zabel is one of MedCure's Education Directors. His role is to help educate hospice and other end-of-life care professionals on how to best assist and support their patients through the whole body donation process.

Luke Zabel was born and raised in rural Minnesota, about 40 miles west of the Twin Cities. He studied Psychology at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN, where he gained an understanding of the importance of research while volunteering in multiple research labs. Growing up, he spent a lot of time outdoors developing a love of nature, which ultimately led him to Oregon in 2016 after graduating. Luke currently lives in Portland, where he spends much of his time hiking and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest with his lovely wife and their 2 beagles.

Luke has always had a passion for helping people, which he learned from his father’s willingness to help those in need. In 2009, his father passed away suddenly from an undetected brain aneurysm, at the early age of 60. His father was able to help 64 individual recipients throughout the country by giving back through organ and tissue donation. Luke’s passion for research and helping people, along with his own experience dealing with the loss of those close to him is what drew him to working for MedCure. In the Education Director role, Luke works on educating end-of-life care staff on the benefits whole body donation provides to patients, their families, and the medical community through research and education. This is an industry he hopes continually grows and improves so that future generations will benefit from medical breakthroughs in research.

Question: So Luke, being from Minnesota, you must have a favorite kind of hot dish, right?

Answer: I'd say my favorite hot dish would have to be chicken noodle. It has shredded chicken, egg noodles, lots of cheese, and a crushed sour cream and onion potato chip topping. Yum!
